Vox & Soul is the crossover episode of two voice studios.

CJ Lorentz and Rachael Gold — two professional singers and coaches in Seattle, built into one.

OUR STORY

CJ and Rachael met before CWU, in a production of South Pacific at Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre. They stayed friends through college — then lost touch, the way people do, until they both landed back in Seattle and found their way to the same voice studio east of the city.

There, they became more than coaches — building programs, working with families, growing something bigger than either of them expected. And working inside that studio taught them something else: exactly what they didn't want a voice studio to be.

By then, each had already built something of their own on the side — Rachael's Rock Vox Studios, CJ's In Your Own Way Studios. When it was time to move on, merging those into one was the obvious next step.

Both are artists first, and the merger reflects that — teaching that fuels the art, and art that fuels the teaching.

Vox & Soul is what they built from that.

THE COACHES

CJ is a storyteller, singer-songwriter, and voice and artist developer with Musical Theatre BFA training from Central Washington University and an adjunct private voice professor at Cornish College of the Arts at Seattle University. His current venture is CJFM. — a radio-broadcast-styled funk, soul, and pop project, and a growing platform for bringing guest artists on to celebrate their work alongside his own in concert. Stay tuned!

That instinct — celebrating other artists as much as his own craft — is core to how CJ teaches. He's drawn to the model Quincy Jones set for the music world: not just a talent, but a mentor and connector who made space for other people's greatness.

CJ doesn't teach one style of voice — he helps artists find theirs, developed through their own personality and execution.

His stage work includes Joseph with Taproot Theatre, Mamma Mia! and the Festival of New Musicals at Village Theatre, Spring Awakening and Into the Woods at The 5th Avenue Theatre, and Jesus Christ Superstar at Asolo Repertory Theatre.

Rachael is a Seattle-based original heavy pop artist, releasing music as IVES GOLD. She performs across the greater Seattle area, with music available on all major platforms, and is currently working on her first EP. A seasoned vocalist and recording artist, IVES brings her experience in the studio and onstage into her work with developing artists.

Rachael has called the Pacific Northwest home for most of her life and began singing in junior high, eventually earning her BFA in Musical Theatre from Central Washington University. She went on to New York to train through the Open Jar Institute, studying with artists including Kate Baldwin, Jackie Presti, Stacia Fernandez, James Gray, Jeff Whiting, Joanna Gleason, and Bob Cline. Her professional training included a Broadway stage reading and extensive audition experience before the COVID shutdown brought her back to Seattle.

Returning home ultimately opened the door to writing and performing her own music as IVES — a project rooted in powerful vocals, emotional honesty, and storytelling. No stranger to the vocal booth and recording studio, Rachael is especially passionate about helping singers feel confident and expressive behind the microphone.

As a vocal coach, Rachael works across pop, rock, musical theatre, and singer-songwriter material, with a focus on helping each artist discover and develop a sound that feels authentically theirs.
